The Squeak Oversight Board coordinates the community’s open-source development of its versatile Smalltalk environment.
To that end, we are increasing our visibility within the community through open communication channels, a streamlined release process, joining the Software Freedom Conservancy, supporting teams to tackle their domain-specific challenges, and integrating contributions from collaborating groups (e.g., Cuis, Pharo, Etoys, and Croquet).
We are supervising contributions to the Squeak/Smalltalk programming system (and multimedia environment) with a focus on improved liveness and exploratory programming practices while ensuring backwards compatibility at a feasible degree. With these, we believe the community will be more effective in developing for itself and in introducing the system to newcomers.
Note that our mission statement is open to suggestions and is thus evolving along with our community.
